Belém Tower2€15adult · official

Belém Tower

Belém45 min

Free with Lisboa Card

The 16th-century fortress on the Tagus that greeted ships returning from the Age of Discoveries. Inside is small and the stairs are narrow and one-way, so the outside view is half the point.

Tip: If you only have time for one Belém ticket, choose Jerónimos and see the tower from outside.

Prices, hours & card
  • Ages 13–24 and 65+ pay half; 12 and under free.
  • Free with Lisboa Card; a time slot is required.
São Jorge Castle3€17adult · official

Alfama & the miradouros4Free

Alfama & the miradouros

Alfama & the Castle2 h

Lisbon's oldest quarter: stairways, laundry lines and tiny squares. Two free viewpoints — Miradouro de Santa Luzia and Portas do Sol — sit right at its top, a short walk below the castle.

Tip: Walk downhill from the castle instead of uphill. Wear shoes with grip — the limestone pavement is slippery.

Tram 285Transit fare

Tram 28

Alfama & the Castle40–60 min

Free with Lisboa Card

The vintage yellow tram that rattles from Martim Moniz through Graça, Alfama and Chiado to Campo de Ourique. It is a regular public-transport line, so a normal ticket or travel card works.

Tip: Board at Martim Moniz before 09:00 to get a seat. Pickpockets work the crowded trams — keep bags in front.

Prices, hours & card
  • Normal Carris fare; buying from the driver costs more than using a Navegante card.
  • Included in the Lisboa Card.
Oceanário de Lisboa6from€25.50

Oceanário de Lisboa

Parque das Nações2 h

Lisboa Card discount

One of Europe's largest aquariums, built around a single huge central tank with sharks, rays and a sunfish. The best rainy-day and family option in the city.

Tip: Combine with the riverside cable car and a walk along Parque das Nações. Metro: Oriente (red line).

Prices, hours & card
  • Official site lists tickets “from €25.50”.

Monument to the Discoveries

Belém45 min

Free with Lisboa Card

The 52-metre caravel-shaped monument on the Belém waterfront. Take the lift to the top terrace for a view of Belém Tower, the Jerónimos Monastery and the 25 de Abril Bridge.

Tip: Look down from the terrace at the giant compass rose and world map set into the pavement.

Prices, hours & card
  • About €10 for the viewpoint per 2026 guides; not confirmed on the official site.
  • Free with Lisboa Card.
National Coach Museum8€15adult · official

National Coach Museum

Belém1 h

Free with Lisboa Card

A surprisingly good museum of royal and ceremonial coaches from the 16th to 19th centuries, gilded and enormous. Usually far less crowded than the rest of Belém.

Tip: A good pick for kids and for a hot afternoon.

Prices, hours & card
  • Ages 13–24 and 65+ pay half; 12 and under free.
  • Free with Lisboa Card.
Praça do Comércio & Rua Augusta9Free

Praça do Comércio & Rua Augusta

Baixa & Chiado1 h

The grand riverside square rebuilt after the 1755 earthquake, entered through the Rua Augusta Arch. From here the pedestrian Rua Augusta runs straight to Rossio.

Chiado & Bairro Alto10Free

Lisbon Cathedral (Sé)11See official site

Lisbon Cathedral (Sé)

Alfama & the Castle45 min

On Lisboa Card list

The fortress-like 12th-century cathedral on the Tram 28 route. The nave is the free part; the cloister excavations and treasury are ticketed.

LX Factory12Free

LX Factory

Alcântara & riverside1.5 h

A 19th-century industrial complex under the 25 de Abril Bridge, now full of restaurants, design shops and the much-photographed Ler Devagar bookshop.

Tip: Pair it with Belém: it is on the way from the centre. Sunday has a small market.

Ajuda National Palace13€15adult · official

Ajuda National Palace

Lisbon attractions: common questions

How many days do you need in Lisbon?

Three days covers the essentials: one for the old town (Baixa, Alfama, the castle), one for Belém, and one for a day trip to Sintra. With a fourth day add Cascais, the Oceanário or a slower day in Chiado and LX Factory.

What are the top attractions in Lisbon?

Jerónimos Monastery, Belém Tower, São Jorge Castle, Alfama and its viewpoints, Tram 28 and the Oceanário — plus Pena Palace and Quinta da Regaleira in Sintra, about 40 minutes away by train.

Which Lisbon attractions are free?

Walking Alfama, Baixa and Chiado, the miradouros (Santa Luzia, Portas do Sol, São Pedro de Alcântara, Senhora do Monte), Praça do Comércio, LX Factory, the church of the Jerónimos Monastery and the nave of the cathedral cost nothing.

Do I need to book Lisbon attractions in advance?

For Jerónimos Monastery, Belém Tower and Pena Palace, yes in high season — they use time slots and same-day slots sell out. Most other sights can be bought at the door.

Is the Lisboa Card worth it?

It pays off if you visit two or three paid Belém sites and the castle and use public transport in the same 24–72 hours. Use our calculator to check your own plan.
